Penultimate Saturday, the joy of members of Gombe state Deaf Women Association (GOSDWA) knows no boundary as the Association elects new State Executive Council under the leadership of Mrs Alheri Nuhu Iliya to pilot it's affairs for the next four years. 


The election which was the second in the history of GOSDWA since it's establishment in 2016 was held at the premise of Bubayero primary school, Dawaki Quarters, Gombe under the supervision of Representatives of  National Headquarters of Deaf Women Association in Nigeria (DWAN) 

Prior to the election on Friday a joint meeting between the Leadership of DWAN and that of GOSDWA was conducted which paved the way for resolving amicably all pre-election disputes and internal wranglings within the planks and ranks of GOSDWA's members.


Earlier the Gombe state Deaf Community has already took a collective decision on the position of women leadership, with the unanimous decision favouring any woman who clinch the position of chairperson of GOSDWA  is automatically the Women leader of Gombe State Association of the Deaf, this decision produced Mrs. Alheri Nuhu Iliya as GOSDWAS's chairperson after she  emerged  the GOMSAD Women Leader two years ago. 


 Those elected in various positions during the Saturday's election were Aishatu A. Salisu, Vice Chairperson, Maryam Sajo Bwilwa, Secretary General, Aishatu Abubakar, Assistant Secretary General, Financial secretary, Hadiza Mohammed Awak.


Others were: Haj Hauwa Saidu Muhammad, treasurer, Aishatu Adamu, social Welfare secretary, Naomi Nathaniel, Public Relation Officer I, Rabi Saleh, Public Relation Officer II, Juliana Jonah, Chief whip and  Aishatu Musa, Youth leader. 


ANN reports, the newly elected officials listed above were sworn into office under the supervision of DWAN Representatives immediately after the results of votes casted were announced by the electoral committee.


Speaking earlier the National President of DWAN Mrs. Helen Beyioku-Alase praised God for making it possible to resolve all  the pre-election tussle that almost tear the association apart, stressing  the urgent need for more understanding, patient, unity and collaboration between GOSDWA's members and the national headquarters of DWAN.


She noted, "I urge you all to see yourselves as one indivisible  family tied by common sense of  womenhood. If you were to take any decision, it must always be in tendem with the stipulations of your constitution"


Corrobating the earlier position of the DWAN president, the North East Coordinator of DWAN Ms. Miyausa Wayuta and her North West counterpart, Mrs. Hajara Nasir Makarfi admonished the entire GOSDWA's members to always prioritize unity, teamwork and patriotism in whatever they do.


Stressing that it's only when the newly elected executives members are United they will be able to achieve unlimited success as a team.


 

On her part, the pioneer chairperson of GOSDWA Mrs. Tani Daniel who chaired the Electoral Committee commended members of the committee for their resilient commitment and patient to see the success of the election. She also thanked the DWAN National leaders for their sacrifice and cooperation accorded to the association

WORLD REFUGEES DAY 2024: X-RAYING TEJOUSHO'S LOVE FOR IDPs

As the world  commemorate the 2024 edition of the "World Refugee Day" on June 20th, 2024. 

 Queen Halimat Adenike Tejiusho, the CEO/Founder of  the renowned international Humanitarian and philanthropic foundation Queen Halimat Tejousho Foundation (QATF) has joined the National Commission of Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD), United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), World Health Organization (WHO),  and other development partners in commemorating and observing World Refugee Day 2024.

   In line with this year's theme, "Solidarity with Refugees", which seeks to  emphasizes the importance of building inclusive health systems and ensuring equitable care for refugees worldwide. Tejousho emphasize her foundation's commitment and ever ready posture towards alleviating the sufferings of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Nigeria.

In the past few years, Tejousho has through her humanitarian foundation touched the lives of many IDPs and other vulnerable groups in the society from different parts of Nigeria, empowering them with assorted relief materials ranging from mattresses, medication, blankets, food items and cash to help them purchase some essential goodies.

  The kindhearted Tejousho's humanitarian gesture towards the IDPs also extend to supporting their children education from primary to post primary levels. 

 Tejousho didn't just stop there, she had fought galantly to advocates for their health rights, and strives to create a world where everyone, regardless of migratory status, enjoys universal access to quality health care.

In December 25th 2023 at Durumi IDP Camp Abuja, the renowned philanthropist was delight of everyone as she donated assorted sorts of relief materials such as meidicines, food, matresses, educational materials, cash etc  to IDP tenants. 

 An IDP tenant identified as Mr Kingsley who could not hide his admiration to kindhearted Tejousho expressed immense gratitude to God for sending a messenger in person of Dr. Halimat Adenike Tejousho to provide secure to the tenants.


He said, " we are extremely grateful to God for sending us such a kindhearted mother to alleviate our sufferings "

" Before you come here our camp has been deserted, only members of catholic church came to us from time to time"

  "We appreciate you greatly for this kind gesture towards us and pray God to bless you" Mr.Kingsley noted.

 To the delight of millions of  Nigerians, recently Dr. Tejousho provided a brand new wheelchair to a  physically challenged IDP member living in IDP Camp Gudu,  and  put his children in school. 

Tejousho has a firm belief that displaced individuals  are not to be  merely taken as recipients of charity but are also active contributors to societal development who can serve as skilled health care professionals, cultural mediators, and advocates for equitable access. 

 To this end, she had consistently made IDP camps across the country  her second home which is the reason she has been seeing roaming halter skelter from one IDP camp to another  providing solid support for the IDPs in line with President Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda and the UN's urgent need for global solidarity to the IDPs.

BREAKING; GOMBE STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY TO COMMIT PASSAGE OF DISABILITY BILL WITHIN SIX WEEKS TIMEFRAME

Sequel to the earlier promises made by Gombe state government under the administration of His Excellency Alh. Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya (Dan Majen Gombe) to carry all categories of persons with Disabilities in his government, and His Excellency's drive towards running an inclusive administration devoid of all forms of discrimination whatsoever.  


A Bill to provide  for the establishment of Gombe State Disability Protection Law and the establishment of Gombe State Disability Commission and other  matters related thereto 2024 has today passed its first and second readings on the floor of Gombe State House of Assembly. 


The Bill which is committed to the House Committee on Women Affairs and Special  Duties. The house has aloted the  committee   six weeks mandate to scrutinize and report back to the Hon House for proper passage into Law.

The Bill is a Private member Bill sponsored by Hon. Shuaibu Adamu Haruna, member representing Kwami East Constituency along with Hon. Musa Buba (Balanga North),  Hon. Nasiru  Abdulkarim (Dukku North) and Adamu Sale Pata (Yamaltu East) as co-sponsors.

THROWBACK : SALLAH CELEBRATION; QATAR FOUNDATION GIFTS COWS TO GOMBE SPECIAL SCHOOL

As the global Muslim populace commemorates the yearly holy festival of eid-el adha celebration this week  amid intense socioeconomic challenges that recently culminated into the ever-increasing high cost of living, characterized by incessant hike in the price of essential commodities in our market centres everywhere. 

Aiming to put smile on the faces of students with disabilities (SWDs) and staff of Special Education Centre, Gombe and made them feel a sense of belonging in this turbulent period of economic meltdown. The renowned international Humanitarian organization "Qatar Foundation" has on sunday gifted two cows to the students and staff of the centre as their special sallah celebration package. 


Commenting on the development, the former principal of the school and the current Special Education Coordinator in   the Gombe State Ministry of Education, Mal.Saidu Jiji Gadam, expressed immense gratitude to the Qatar Foundation management for their continued support to the centre. 

His words,"I am extremely grateful to the Qatar Foundation management for the many humanitarian support rendered to the centre"

" we sincerely appreciate the foundation for gifting two cows to the centre, one for the students and one for the staff. This is the first time we are seeing  this kind gesture, we pray this will last for a longtime to come" he noted.

Speaking earlier, the principal of the centre, Mal.  Muhammed Ahmed Lawal, who could not his admiration for the Qatar Foundation kind gestures towards his students and staff,  extolled the  leadership of the foundation for singling out his school for such humanitarian support. 

Lawal said, " I am very happy our school is considered for such gigantic humanitarian gesture, my deepest appreciation goes to the leadership of this great organization for finding this school worthy of such honour "

"These children will never forget you for providing them with sallah meat that put them on equal basis with other children who are are rejoicing their sallah meat at home" 

He added, "i want to use this opportunity to appreciate the continued support of the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) who being consistently doing everything to keep the centre going"


On their separate remarks during the meat sharing, the Patrons of the Muslims Students Society of Nigeria (MSSN) and that of Fellowership Of Christian Students ( FCS) of the centre, Mal. Abdullahi A. Awak and Mr. Blessed Charles expressed their appreciations to the Qatar Foundation hierarchy. 

In that regard, the MSSN patron pleaded with the Qatar Foundation to expand its  kindhearted gesture to the Muslim students during the holy month of Ramadan.

Nothing that during the period of Holy month of Ramadan the students were neglected by almost everyone, which, according to him, make life more  unbearable to them.

The Head boy of the school,Nasiru Muhammad SSS II,   when contacted for comment  by ANN correspondent says the students consider themselves very lucky to have a  generous donation of meat by Qatar Foundation. 

He said almost in a tears of joy, "Your kindness has made a significant impact on our community and we are truly grateful"
