IDPWD 2024; Borno Government Distributes Relief Items to 400 PWDs

As part of plans to mark the 2024 International Day of Persons with Disabilities a memorable occasion for Borno state disability community, the Borno state government Tuesday distributed assorted relief items to 400 PWDs in the state.

The wife of the Borno state Governor,  Herxcellency Dr. Falmata Babagana Umara Zulum, the First Lady of Borno state collaborates with the  Borno State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development to convene the commemoration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPWD) on Tuesday 3rd December , 2024, The theme for this year's event, "Amplifying the Leadership of Persons with Disabilities for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future," highlighted the importance of empowering individuals with disabilities and ensuring their full participation in society.

Speaking at the inception the colourful event,  the Commissioner of Borno State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development. In her speech, Hon. Zuwaira Gambo emphasized the Borno State Government’s Commitment towards improving the living condition of  persons with disabilities in Borno state, stating that the pivotal leadership and commitment demonstrated by the First Lady, Dr. Falmata Zulum is enhancing the drive towards alleviating the lingering sufferings rocking persons with disabilies in the state and providing enabling environment  for their empowerment.

Dr. Falmata Zulum officially launched the distribution of empowerment items to 400 persons with disabilities. The items included 100 sewing machines, 40 grinding machines, 200 dignity kits, incense, and cash support of 10,000 Naira each for 60 individuals. These efforts aim to enhance the independence of persons with disabilities and promote sustainable livelihoods.

The kindhearted gesture demonstrated by the Borno First Lady was equally commended by other speakers in their seperate goodwill messages, those who lauded the good gesture including the chairman of Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD), Borno state chapy, Mal.  Adamu Gaji Bukar who commended Gov. Zulum and the  First Lady for promoting inclusion of PWDs in the state, Comrade Bulama Abiso, also  expressed gratitude for the ongoing efforts of the Borno State Government in improving the living condition of persons with disabilities, Ability News Network reports
