IDPWD: Borno JONAPWD Applauds Gov. Zulum Over Steps Taken to Eradicate Street Begging Menace Among PWDs in Borno

The Secretary General of  Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD) Borno state chapter, Mal. Adamu Gaji Bukar has commended the Borno state government under the leadership of His Excellency Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum for the magnificent steps taken by the administration to halt street begging amongst persons with disabilities in the state.

Bukar made the compliment penultimate Tuesday while speaking during the commemoration of the 2024 International Day of Persons with Disabilities organized by the Borno state ministry of Women Affairs. 

Themed "Amplifying the Leadership of Persons with Disabilities for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future" the event witnessed the active participation of several dignitaries including government officials and  policy makers, philanthropists, who is who in the disability community among others, all of whom thronged to witness a global calls to recognize the critical roles played in creating more Inclusive and sustainable world for all. 

 In his speech the JONAPWD Secretary expressed optimism that the celebration of the event would ushers in a new era and make a positive impacts not only on the Borno state PWDs community but also on the entire state populace.

He emphasized the commitment of his fellow PWDs in identifying with the challenges faced by the  global disability.

  Saying "the JONAPWD Borno state chapter is joining the rest of the PWDs in Nigeria and the world in celebrating this special day with the aim of enlighten the state government and the general public about the disability and the need to ensure the rights of PWDs are protected as well as ensuring policy makers take into consideration of the needs of PWDs"

"I must confess that Borno state government under the distinguished leadership of His Excellency Professor Babagana Umara Zulum has been given us sense of belonging with favourable programmes targeted at improving our lives, in order for anyone of us to contribute our quota to the state development" he said

Bukar also tasked the leaders of the state not to belittle the God-given talents and ability possessed by the PWDs, stressing that "the PWDs believe with proper support and assistance we can functions properly in the society like our able bodied counterparts"

"Disability is not inability" he added,  "there should be no discrimination against PWDs" there should be equal participation and opportunities for all" with the right support for PWDs to achieve their God-given potentials despite the limitations of disability" he warned. 

On a final note, the Borno state JONAPWD leader used the opportunity availed him to express a heartfelt commendation to the state Governor, His Excellency Professor Babagana Umara Zulum for championing inclusion for PWDs community in the state through initiating policies and projects that have direct bearing on the lives of PWDs in Borno state.

He said, " we commend this administration of His Excellency for it's worthy cause of the gigantic steps taken towards eradicating street begging. The allowance given to us will go a long way to sustaining our daily survival"

"The Ministry of Women Affairs and the workaholic Hon. Commissioner, Zuwaira Gambo, a woman full of kindness has been of great help to Borno PWDs under her ministry. She knows us we'll and our needs unlike others who are handicapped in understanding the PWDs. Indeed we have never have it so good, but we can boldly say she is the best Hon. Commissioner of Women Affairs ever"
