The visually impaired Students of Gombe State University have cried out for help following the recent hike in school fees at the institution, saying such huge increases in thier registration fees could frustrate the academic pursuits of vulnerable students and lead to the mass drop out of school among PWDs students. Ability News Network reports the development.
The visually impaired students made their statements known to media personels through several videos they shared in various fora of social media to air their complaints with the hope of drawing the attention of His Excellency Alh. Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, the Executive Governor of Gombe state and other prominent leaders of Gombe state to come to their aid.
The video content of the students' comlaints denote a terrible stories of haplessness on the side of the PWDs students. ANN reports.
According to a 300 level student of political science department, Abubakar Arfat Usman, the students complaints was borne out of instant neccrssity to cusion the untold hardships they have faced which worsen off by the current economic challenges.
"we as a student with disabilities we are expressing how we used to get Western education before now but this time a lot have changed and make it very difficult for us"
"we have been complaining about the unbearable hike in registration fees and we are soliciting for free registration since we have nobody to support us or depend on" Usman said.
" we are passionately appealing the governor of Gombe state to give us free education in all the levels of education from primary, secondary to tatiary institutions like it was done to our counterparts in other States like Bauchi, Yobe, Jigawa among other States in the country" said Usman Haruna Abubakar, a 300 level student of Islamic education.
"In all these States i mentioned, education for people with disabilities is free. Due to the lack of fund one of our fellow student has been expelled from the school, though he later find a way to rectify the issue, he has suffered so much, so for this reason we are calling wealthy individuals non-governmental organizations NGOs, politicians to put their helping hands together in order to see the success of our education" Abubakar added
