Katsina Governor's Aide Demands Implementation of the 5% Employment Quota For PWDs in Katsina State

The Special Assistant to the Governor of Katsina state on Disability Matters, Hon. Umar Jibril Bindawa, had appealed to the kastina state government to prioritize the domestication and implementation of the FG's 5% employment quota for persons with Disabilities in the state. 

Hon. Umar Jibril Bindawa made the charge during a courtesy visit he paid to the  Katsina State Head of Civil Service and to advocate for the Inclusion of People with Disabilities in all sectors of public life.

The visit, Ability News Network reports was part of Hon. Bindawa's recent  series of official visits to several government institutions in the state aimed at fostering inclusivity and improving opportunities for People with Disabilities (PWDs) in Katsina State.

Earlier at the Head of Civil Service headquarters, Hon. Bindawa explained the strategies to be employed for integrating PWDs into various sectors across the state. Key issues highlighted during the meeting include:

1. Establishing Disability Desk Officers in Various Government Ministries Departments and Agencies (MDAs):

Assigning dedicated Disability Desk Officers in state Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to advocate for and address the needs of PWDs.

2. Provision of Foreign Scholarships:

Expanding educational opportunities for PWDs through foreign scholarship programs to build their capacities.

3. Implementation of the 5% Employment Quota:

Ensuring the effective implementation of the 5% employment quota for PWDs in the state to enhance their participation in the workforce.

4. Presentation of an Excellence Merit Award:

Hon. Bindawa also used the occasion to present an Excellence Merit Award to the Katsina State Head of Civil Service, which was received on behalf of the Head of Civil Service by the Permanent Secretary.

Hon.Bindawa expressed his immense appreciation to the Head of Service for the warm reception accorded to him and his team and for the commitment of the Head of Civil Service towards promoting inclusivity. 

Responding to the SA's kindhearted gesture, "the Permanent Secretary assured the SA  of the state government’s readiness to act on the proposals, emphasizing Governor Umar Dikko Radda’s dedication to supporting PWDs through employment and empowerment programs"

Hon. Bindawa, in another advocacy Visit he paid to his friend and colleague identified as Malam Sabo Musa, Special Assistant to the Governor on Enlightenment and Digital Communication, stressed the importance of collaboration to achieve collective goals, emphasizing "that the purpose of this visit was to explore ways to improve the inclusion of PWDs in state enlightenment and digital communication initiatives"

He further  emphasized the importance of equal opportunities for PWDs in Katsina State and presented an award to Malam Sabo Musa in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the development of the disability community.

In his response, Malam Sabo Musa assured Hon. Bindawa of his unwavering support. He pledged to ensure that PWDs are included in programmes under his office and to involve them in all projects related to enlightenment and digital communication.

 He also reaffirmed his readiness to keep his doors open for collaboration and participation from the PWD community.

Commitment to a More Inclusive Katsina State

These visits highlight Hon. Bindawa’s tireless efforts to advocate for the rights and inclusion of PWDs in Katsina State. With the support of Governor Mallam Umar Dikko Radda’s administration and dedicated allies like Malam Sabo Musa, PWDs in Katsina are poised to benefit from increased opportunities, empowerment, and representation in various spheres of governance and society.
